Going out to eat with food allergies

As I’ve said before, eating out is the biggest challenge when you have food allergies. You don’t know the chef or server, or know whether or not to trust them when they say, “Oh, there’s no nuts in that.” Plus, restaurants are busy, fast-paced, and more than one person is going to have a hand in creating your meal, so even if one person gets the allergy memo, it’s hard to know for sure it’s being passed around.

I’d love to see this Virginia bill, mandating food allergy training for restaurants, pass. I know it’s hard for restaurants to accommodate special meals and allergic customers, but the upside for them is huge in potential earnings, and in making sure they’re keeping their customers happy, well-fed, and safe.
