A change in feeding protocol for allergies
There’s a new study out that has many allergy families talking. It now states that feeding your infant peanut products earlier may help them avoid peanut allergies. That’s a switch from earlier information given to parents, who were told to avoid peanut products during the first year of life, or at least hold off for the early months.
I know quite a few parents who are really upset by this news. They’re wondering if their vigilance in following earlier recommendations is what led to their child’s allergies.
There’s no blame to go around here. Food allergies are on the rise–fast–and trying to play catch up with the reasons behind the increase in allergies as well as best treatment protocols isn’t easy, for doctors or for parents.
Hang in there, everyone. We’ll figure this out and hopefully find a cure yet!
