Food allergies overstated?
Reading the headline of this article, “Most School Kids Who Report Food Allergies Don’t Have Them,” you might assume that this another article about helicopter parents who insist their kid is sensitive to gluten when the parent is just crazy and overly cautious. Read it through, though. The article theorizes that kids are avoiding foods that they had reactions to and have since outgrown, but their families hadn’t realized it yet. This points to a need for easier, less expensive, less time-consuming and less stressful way to test for food allergies than a 4-hour long food challenge. Get to it, allergists!
