Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania
Helpful parenting book alert! Frank Bruni’s Where You Go Is Not Who You’ll Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania has a simple message: that between the rankings and general lunacy of striving, a % of us have lost our minds trying to push our kids towards a select few elite institutions. I appreciated, particularly, the take-down of the U.S. News & World Report college rankings and would love to see that put to bed permanently. (Side note: Harvard Medical School is no longer going to submit data to U.S. News for their med school list, so change may be coming!)
Back to Bruni’s book, where he interviews interesting people to learn their educational histories, discovering, as the title states, where you go is not who you’ll be. If you’re a a parent in danger of losing healthy perspective in this process, it’s well worth reading.
