Restaurants and food allergies
I’ve said it before. Eating out is absolutely the scariest part of having a food allergy. So much has to go right for a food allergic patron to safely eat out. The wait staff has to get it, the chef has to get it. The diner has to be clear.
With multiple allergies, we really didn’t dine out. It was too challenging for any restaurant to manage. Now that we are down to one restaurant, we are more comfortable going to restaurants, but cases like these are still pretty terrifying.
I know that restaurants want happy, healthy customers, and as a former waitress, I also know how hard “special” orders are. I’m not sure what the solution is, but there was obviously a failure on the part of this Panera to protect a peanut allergic child while claiming they could cater to her allergies without issue.
