Reading Resolutions

Happy New Year, all! Over at From the Mixed-Up Files of Middle Grade Authors, we’re talking about our reading resolutions for 2017. Mine is to find books that make me laugh, and also to keep on top of the best of middle grade. Over break, I read a few wonderful #kidlit books:

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
The always-talented DiCamillo tackles such issues as parental abandonment, death of a sibling, poverty, loneliness and the fate of an ex-prisoner and yet manages to make an uplifting, lovely, readable middle grade story. How she does it, I have no idea.

The Baby-Sitters Club 1: Kristy’s Great Idea by Ann M. Martin; Raina Telgemeier
A reboot of the popular series, in graphic novel form from rockstar Telgemeier. Just perfect and fun!

Booked by Kwame Alexander
I loved Kwame Alexander’s The Crossover, which was a fast-moving, smart, funny and moving read. Once again, Alexander writes with wit and smarts about a young man with a love of sports who’s also dealing with the challenges of middle school life.

What’s your reading resolution for 2017?
