Kids need “mirror books”

Cool — a new initiative from the National Education Association Foundation, publishing house Lee & Low Books, and the nonprofit First Book , will provide books for students in low-income communities, fund the creation of a teacher tip sheet, and will publish a book by a writer of color.

Why? Because, as the article, Closing the Diversity Gap in Young Adult Literature (Takepart) states, kids of color don’t have access to good mirror books, which can make a child feel seen and appreciated by the world at large.
