I know, I’m late to the party here. Kwame Alexander’s amazing middle grade novel The CrossoverThe Crossover won awards (including a Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Honor) back in 2015, and I’m just reading it now. But, boy, am I glad I did. With poetry and heart, he writes the story of 12-year-old Josh Bell and his family, his twin brother, their mutual love of basketball, and the changes and challenges he faces one school year. If you don’t know much about poet and literacy advocate Alexander, here’s a stellar interview with him at PBS.org.
