I’m struggling to figure out how to speak to my middle schooler about that terrible day 15 years ago. We have talked about the timeline of events and the tragic loss of lives, but for some kids, a novel may be a valuable way to learn, as well. Middle graders and their parents can read Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story by Nora Raleigh Baskin together. This is a well-reviewed story about four middle schoolers and the days leading up to 9/11.

For more ideas, you’ll find lists for a range of ages at Common Sense Media, Scholastic, and Popsugar.
